The
Thompson-Nicola Region is located in the British Columbia Interior
to the west of the Okanagan Valley and Shuswap Lakes Regions.
As shown on the map, the towns and cities of the Thompson Nicola
region are set in a landscape reminiscent of the old west, with
arid rolling hills and plateaus studded with hundreds of fishing
lakes, and mountain regions carved by mighty rivers. The Thompson
Nicola Region is well known as cowboy country and gold-panning
country. The mighty Fraser River and the mighty Thompson River
both dominate the region and converge at Lytton, which is well-known
for world-class whitewater rafting. Many of the regions towns
such as Lillooett, Cache Creek and Ashcroft share a rich goldrush
history. Throughout the Thompson Nicola Region are many opportunities
to stay at guest ranches, fishing resorts Bed and Breakfasts,
local inns and hotels. Recreational enthusiasts will enjoy the
endless opportunity to fish in hundreds of fishing lakes, camp
at Provincial Forestry Recreation Campsites and Provincial Parks,
and hike the endless recreational trails. During the winter months,
enjoy cross-country skiing and snowmobiling on the backcountry
trails.
